Course Description: This class will take an in depth look at many different media and techniques. We will explore painting, weaving, ceramics, etc. The students will get a taste for all of the different ways to create artwork.
Goals & Objectives: TSW
Develop an understanding and respect for a variety of artist from different cultures and periods of time.
Master the use of painting, drawing, printing, and various other media throughout the quarter.
Create final products incorporating written reflections describing themselves and the techniques used.
Materials: (SUBJECT TO CHANGE-please wait to purchase for your semester) Everyday Materials Pencil Individual Pencil Sharpener Classroom Donation Materials At least two packs of markers At least one roll of paper towels At least one container of Clorox Wipes Any fabric scraps larger than 8.5" x 11" (A piece of printer paper)
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:
RESPECT Understanding that when I am the speaker, they listen and do not talk-and when they talk, I listen. What I have to say is important for the students to hear, and vice versa. Respect of materials-using the materials properly and returning the room to the same condition as it was when they came in. I work hard to keep a clean room for them and they should respect me. With that, the students should also respect their environment and classes who are coming after them. Respect themselves and others. Allowing them to work through their problems without giving up. Also, giving students the ability to complete their work without negative criticism but rather positive feedback.
NO CELL PHONES/IPODS ETC. Cell phones and Ipods could cause a distraction for the students. If a student has a cell phone or an Ipod out during class then it becomes MINE. The only time that a cell phone or an Ipod is allowed to be out is with teacher permission.
NO FOOD OR DRINKS Food or drinks could cause a problem because they can be spilled onto other students' artwork or even be mixed with harmful products causing health hazards. Students should not eat or drink in my classroom.
POSITIVE PARTICIPATION Students are encouraged to converse with their peers as well as provide them with helpful and useful feedback-whether it is during a gallery walk or even just in everyday class. All students will work silently for the 1st half of class and may earn the privilege to talk quietly for the 2nd half of class. This ensures all students the opportunity to make sure they understand the project and expectations.
CLASSROOM POLICIES: Attendance: Students are expected to be present and prompt. If the student is absent they will be expected to ask about the materials they missed. If the student is absent on a day that a project is due, that product is due the day that they return. This is the students' responsibility.
Grading: Students will be graded on their in class participation, homework, final products, and presentations. Any late projects or presentations will be accepted up to 5 days late, with a "Late Work" form attached, but the student will not be able to receive a grade higher than a 70. **All students have the opportunity to come in before school and during lunch to complete their work on time. Assignments can be taken home to work on as well.
